LEED Commercial Interiors: Consulting & Project Management
LEED Fundamental Commissioning
LEED Commercial Interiors, v2009 (Gold)
Strategy & Services: Located in San Francisco’s bustling Union Square shopping district, this LEED certified flagship store demonstrates DSW’s commitment to sustainability. As DSW’s first foray into LEED, healthy and sustainable materials selection and energy were determined as the key sustainability goals of the project. stok led LEED consulting, project management, and commissioning for the project, and later conducted a large cost benefit analysis of pursuing LEED Volume certification for all of DSW’s buildings nationally. DSW took this, along with their excitement from the success of their first foray into LEED, to evaluate integrating sustainability into their entire real estate portfolio.
Design Details: With a focus on healthy and sustainable materials, the unfinished casework used throughout to display merchandise serves both function and form, creating a beautiful interior aesthetic while allowing the project to use less virgin material and improve the air quality of the space. After this original project, stok’s deep relationship with DSW allowed stok to show a large cost and benefit analysis of pursuing the LEED Volume program, with a focus on health and wellness.
DSW took their excitement from the success of their first foray into LEED to evaluate integrating sustainability into their entire real estate portfolio.
Outcome: The project was able to realize impressive energy savings through the lighting design retrofit. A combination of high efficiency fixtures and sophisticated lighting zones controlled by daylight and occupancy sensors yielded a 40% reduction in electricity use. Harnessing the momentum from this first inspiring project, stok helped DSW evaluate integrating sustainable and healthy building strategies across their entire real estate portfolio and realize their potential sustainable impact in all of their retail locations nationally.
