Strategy & Services: The Core Performance Center (CPC) houses Santa Monica College’s (SMC) Athletics, Physical Education, Fitness, and Dance programs in the heart of the SMC main campus. It features a fitness center, modern dance studios, classrooms, athletic locker rooms, offices, and a climbing wall. Our team was engaged by the architect to provide energy modeling and analysis for the project team so that the performance of the building aligned with the high performance of its occupants.
Project Details: Our energy specialists provided performance method energy modeling and USGBC LEED documentation for all energy-related credits. Daylighting analysis was also provided to evaluate daylighting performance using LEED criteria, enhancing the design of an indoor environment that supports the health and wellness of occupants through access to natural light.
Our team was engaged by the architect to provide energy modeling and analysis for the project team so that the performance of the building aligned with the high performance of its occupants.
Outcome: The performance center achieved the highest level of certification possible by the USGBC: LEED Platinum! The top-scoring features of the CPC recognized by the USGBC include, among many others:
• Solar thermal heating
• Water efficient landscaping and low-flow plumbing fixtures
• Energy efficient building design with the highest possible energy performance threshold and the maximum output of renewable energy through photovoltaic panels
• The use of low-volatile organic compounds (VOC) materials, using green housekeeping practices, and installing low-mercury lighting fixtures for a healthier indoor environment
