As Salesforce continues to scale its global Sustainable Real Estate Program, the company is translating ambitious climate, wellness, and design standards into high-performance workplaces that support innovation, employee experience, and measurable sustainability outcomes. A standout project within this program, Salesforce Tower Sydney is the city’s largest office building and one of its most sustainable. The base building achieved WELL, NABERS, and Green Star certification. Stok supported Salesforce in applying its global design standards to the fit-out, setting and achieving LEED Platinum, Fitwel, and ILFI Zero Carbon certifications, and creating an embodied carbon approval pathway for future projects across Salesforce’s portfolio.

The Challenge

Aligned with the company’s value of sustainability and bold global design standards, Salesforce set audacious performance goals for its new Australia headquarters. As Salesforce’s global sustainability partner for its Real Estate and Workplace Services (REWS) business unit, Stok helped establish ambitious certification targets for this best-in-class workplace, aligned with Salesforce’s broader corporate sustainability commitments.

Delivering on Salesforce’s goals required navigating multiple certification frameworks, aligning global standards with local market conditions, and coordinating technical services across the complex team. Stok worked alongside Salesforce to translate Salesforce’s global sustainability standards into integrated, practical project decisions, coordinating engineering analysis, certification strategy, and design implementation across the project team.

The Solution

INTERNATIONAL STANDARD IMPLEMENTATION

As a U.S.-based company, Salesforce maintains strong commitments to certifications such as LEED, Fitwel, and ILFI through its global standards; however, these frameworks don’t always translate directly to the Australian context. Stok collaborated closely with Salesforce and project partners to implement creative solutions where standard pathways weren’t readily available.

For example, LEED-compliant tap fixtures were not readily available in Australia, so the project team worked with the preferred faucet manufacturer to develop a custom LEED-compliant aerator for Salesforce. Similarly, construction materials with LEED compliant VOC emissions testing were not readily available in the local market. The project team collaborated with the gypsum board and insulation manufacturers to complete custom testing for the project, meeting LEED requirements.

INTEGRATED SUSTAINABILITY FOR STREAMLINED CERTIFICATION

Stok’s in-house commissioning, energy modeling, and daylight modeling experts enabled a coordinated approach to an otherwise complex and multi-dimensional project. By leading all three certification scopes (LEED, Fitwel, and ILFI Zero Carbon) and consolidating certification leadership, modeling, and commissioning within one team, Stok streamlined communication, reduced the burden on the owner and project team, and accelerated certification delivery.

For example, both LEED and Fitwel have requirements around no-smoking signage, transit, and indoor air quality (IAQ) testing. Stok consolidated these requests, reducing duplication and simplifying coordination with the team. Stok also performed commissioning, energy modeling, daylight modeling, and the life cycle assessment (LCA), enabling the team to coordinate responses to LEED Review questions and streamline the documentation process. A single primary point of contact across all scopes of work improved efficiency.

EMBODIED CARBON LEADERSHIP

For the embodied carbon component of the ILFI Zero Carbon certification, Stok pursued a bespoke portfolio approval pathway with ILFI. The team leveraged Salesforce’s custom embodied carbon measurement methodology, which is based on its global design standard, to gain efficiencies in the certification process, streamline the documentation, and secure recognition for the company’s leadership in embodied carbon reduction. By aligning the project with Salesforce’s global embodied carbon methodology, the team created a pathway that can support future projects across the company’s portfolio.
