Salesforce Tower Chicago

Salesforce continues to translate ambitious sustainability commitments into high-performance workplaces through its global Sustainable Built Environment Program. At Salesforce Tower Chicago, Stok supported the implementation of these global standards, achieving LEED Platinum, Fitwel, and ILFI Zero Carbon certifications while advancing a custom embodied carbon approach that can be scaled from this regional hub across Salesforce’s portfolio.

The Challenge

As Salesforce’s global sustainability partner for its Real Estate and Workplace Services (REWS) business unit, Stok helped define and deliver ambitious certification goals aligned with the company’s broader climate and workplace commitments. Execution required coordinating across multiple certification frameworks, implementing Salesforce’s healthy and sustainable materials program, and integrating technical services across a complex project team. Stok partnered closely with Salesforce to translate high-level standards into actionable project strategies, guiding engineering analysis, certification planning, and design decisions and implementation at the asset level.

The Solution

EFFICIENT CERTIFICATION THROUGH INTEGRATED DELIVERY

To manage the complexity of triple certification, Stok brought in-house commissioning, energy modeling, and daylight modeling together under one team. This integrated approach streamlined communication, reduced duplication, and accelerated delivery across LEED, Fitwel, and ILFI Zero Carbon scopes.

Centralizing these services was particularly valuable in addressing operational data challenges. Accurate building performance data required close coordination between Stok’s monitoring-based commissioning and Zero Carbon experts. Stok coordinated across trade partners, landlords, and vendors to help establish clean and consistent building performance data reporting and access, which seamlessly provided a reliable foundation to validate alignment with Zero Carbon certification requirements.

EMBODIED CARBON AND MATERIALS INNOVATION

Building on Salesforce’s global standards, Stok supported both embodied carbon strategy and material selection to further advance sustainability outcomes. For ILFI Zero Carbon certification, the team helped apply Salesforce’s custom embodied carbon methodology through a custom portfolio-based approval pathway, streamlining documentation and reinforcing a replicable approach for future projects.

In parallel, the project advanced Salesforce’s healthy and sustainable materials program through implementation of the Integrative Analysis of Building Materials pilot credit. Stok identified and prioritized products already aligned with Salesforce’s vetted materials library, verifying they were incorporated into the fit-out while contributing to certification goals. This approach not only supported pilot credit achievement but also helped quantify and demonstrate the impact of Salesforce’s evolving materials standards in practice.
