Last month stok accepted Palo Alto-based nonprofit Acterra’s Business Environmental Awards’ highest honor, the Acterra Award for Sustainability. It’s as close as we’ll ever get to the Oscars, and (with some difficulty) we resisted the urge to show up in costumes.
With its comprehensive application and rigorous judging process, Acterra’s prestigious Business Environmental Awards spotlight a diverse set of organizations each year, and our team was proud to be recognized alongside partners and friends at SFO and many more, as leaders in environmental sustainability and social justice. We were inspired and motivated by the different paths each organization has taken toward creating a healthier planet. And can we just say that heme is a thing!
The award highlighted both the positive impact of our sustainable real estate services on the built environment, as well as our journey toward becoming a more equitable organization. This has involved some pretty crazy stuff—like eliminating hierarchy from our internal structure, pursuing complete transparency in our business operations, and divesting our 401(k) plan from fossil fuels. For more details on all of this, check out our profile video.
What an amazing night! We’d like to give a huge thanks to Acterra, all the event sponsors, and our fellow awardees for providing this collaborative and educational platform to share our passions and work. If that’s not enough gratitude for you, view this brief video of our acceptance speech.
