CHASE CENTER

Located in the waterfront Mission Bay neighborhood of San Francisco and home to the Golden State Warriors, the Chase Center is a state-of-the-art sports arena and event venue that was one of only five NBA arenas that have achieved LEED Gold certification or higher to date when completed in 2019.

The Challenge

Guide the energy efficiency strategy for the Chase Center arena and office towers, and further serve as full sustainability consultants for the Uber office towers on the Chase Center campus, providing LEED consulting, daylight and energy modeling, and a comprehensive M&V plan.

  • Work with the owner, architect, and other design and construction team members to determine the project’s sustainability and performance goals, understand current status and resources, and implement design strategies that help the project achieve goals
  • Provide sustainable design, construction, and operations guidance, including LEED consulting, financial analysis, building performance analysis, and code compliance
  • Design a work plan to tackle a multitude of challenges that come with a project of this size and complexity

Coordinating documentation from over 50 firms involved on the project, Stok ensured that the project went through permitting properly and achieved code compliance, a considerable accomplishment for a project of its size and complexity.

The Solution

SOPHISTICATED ENERGY MODELING

Overcoming the immense challenge posed by such a large and complex project, Stok created one of the most complicated Title-24 energy models in existence to achieve nuanced code compliance.

INNOVATION IN WATER RECYCLING

Combined greywater and stormwater recycling systems together result in a 50% reduction in potable water use for plumbing fixtures, translating into millions of gallons, and thus thousands of dollars, saved.

TRANSPORTATION LEADERSHIP

The arena is also a leader in transportation innovation, with nearly 500 bike rack locations throughout the complex, and additionally purchased a new Muni car to run more frequent public bus service to the arena and offices. As one of the only recent fully privately financed sports arena projects, this investment in infrastructure solidifies the Golden State Warriors and project team as reliable stewards of the city of San Francisco.

Stok is leading the dual WELL certification and providing commissioning services.
