The Challenge

Built in the 1950s to provide housing for military families after World War II, the Parkmerced neighborhood in San Francisco has declined in recent years. The redevelopment plan represents a remarkable opportunity to transform this large, aging housing complex and its surrounding area into a vibrant, sustainable pedestrian-focused community.

The Solution

A PLACE FOR COMMUNITY

Improve key design features, including public transportation access, providing a bicycle network and bike sharing program, electric vehicle infrastructure, community garden spaces.

A BETTER USE OF ENERGY

Introduce comprehensive stormwater low-impact design strategies, restoring and providing native habitat and open space. Utilize recycled water supplemented with low-flow fixtures to greatly reduce potable water demand, utilizing photovoltaic and cogeneration systems to reduce the demand for finite energy resources and peak grid-source energy, rigorous waste separation and education + awareness program to reduce waste and divert as much material from landfill as possible, and requiring 5% of all materials to be salvaged/reused from extensive demolition of existing structures

CONTINUOUS SERVICE

Stok is providing GreenPoint Rated consulting, project management and Green Rater services on Phase 1a and 1b of the Master Development project, which includes five residential buildings (Block 1, Lot 2; Block 1, Lot 3; Block 6; Block 20; Block 22).
