Following the Maui fires, sustainability priorities shifted from global impact to local resilience. The team assembled to revision the meaning and purpose of sustainability for Trilogy, realigning with Trilogy’s longtime focus on benefiting its local community. Stok helped Trilogy identify three key sustainability focus areas—procurement, waste, and energy use—that would directly engage and strengthen the local community.
To advance Trilogy’s sustainability ambitions, Stok delivered sustainability plans for the three areas identified in the revisioning session, each including options for goal setting and strategies for achievement. For energy use, though Trilogy relies on marine-grade diesel and B-100 biodiesel fuel to run its fleet of boats, electric boat motors and battery storage solutions are not yet proven, reliable, or readily available to meet the needs of the type and size of vessels that comprise Trilogy’s fleet. Instead of financially burdening the company to reduce or negate these emissions, Trilogy is focusing on other sustainability initiatives with tangible community benefits. Highlights include:
-
-
- Procurement: Prioritizing local sourcing to revitalize the community economy while integrating environmentally friendly purchasing, such as reef-safe cleaning products.
- Waste: Implementing a food waste composting program to aid Lahaina town revival and replanting efforts, as well as working with Maui County and state harbors to develop a harbor recycling program.
